What constitute an Integer

Basically an Integer is a whole number from a set of negative numbers, positive numbers and Zero.

Horizontal number line.

Let us start with the zero “0” at the center. Any whole number appearing on the right side of zero are positive numbers, i.e.

0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10, ………

Any whole number appearing on the left side of zero are negative numbers, i.e.

………, −10,−9,−8,−7,−6,−5,−4,−3,−2,−1,0

Vertical number line.

If the numbers are stacked vertically, zero represents the “sea level”. Anything above the “sea level” are positive numbers.

Numbers appearing below the “sea level” are negative numbers.

What is not an integer?

Fractions are not integer.

Example : 1/2,1/3,1/4,2/3,3/4 , are examples of non-integer.

Example : −1/2,−1/3,−1/4,−2/3,−3/4  are also non-integers

Decimals are not integer.

Example : 0.1,0.2,0.3 are examples of non-integer.

Example : −0.1,−0.2,−0.3 are also non-integer.
